HYALURONIC ACID LIP INJECTIONS: THE COMPLETE GUIDE
Injection of hyaluronic acid has become the reference treatment in aesthetic medicine to increase lip volume and deeply moisturize the skin. The result is natural, respecting the harmony of the face. The effect lasts several months, depending on the product used. As an aesthetic physician, I can help you to redesign your lips discreetly, without excess, for a subtle, elegant result.
Your Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT LIP INJECTION
DOES LIP INJECTION HURT?
Fear of needles is common among some people, but you should know that discomfort is kept to a minimum thanks to the topical anaesthetic applied beforehand. My patients usually describe a pinching sensation that is quite tolerable.
CAN A SINGLE LIP BE CORRECTED?
This asymmetrical approach is perfectly feasible, depending on the specific anatomical needs identified during the examination.
CAN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE LIPS BE PRECISELY TARGETED?
Absolutely. Injecting hyaluronic acid allows you to tailor your treatment to your specific needs. We distinguish anatomically between red lip (the visible coloured part, called vermilion) of the white lip (the area of skin between the nose and the red lip).
Requests vary: some patients only wish to increase the volume of the red lip for a luscious effect, while others prefer to redefine the boundary between white lip and red lip for a more pronounced contour. This technique can also be used to correct asymmetry between these two areas, or to restore definition to the labial hem that separates these anatomical territories.
CAN YOU HAVE INJECTIONS IF YOU SMOKE?
The injection volume depends on the initial appearance of the lips and the harmony of the lips.
Smoking is not a formal contraindication, but it slows healing and potentially increases complications.
IF INJECTIONS ARE STOPPED, DO THE LIPS SAG?
No, no sagging occurs when treatments are stopped. Hyaluronic acid resorbs naturally without damaging the tissues. Your lips gradually return to their original appearance, exactly as they were before the first injection, without any deterioration or sagging of the skin.
CAN INJECTIONS BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?
Combination with other aesthetic treatments is possible, but requires careful planning. Some combinations are perfectly compatible, while others require special precautions.
Compatible treatments : Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections can be performed simultaneously to treat smile lines or perform a lip flip. Gentle moisturizers and soothing masks are also recommended to optimize healing.
Some people also choose to :
- from nasolabial injectionsto rejuvenate their smile,
- a jawline contouringto redefine the oval of the face,
- injections ofhyaluronic acid to treat dark circles,
- or a medical rhinoplasty to touch up a disfigurement of the nose.
Treatments to avoid temporarily: Chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments should be postponed for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Exposure to intense UV rays (sun, tanning booths) should also be avoided during this period.
Always inform your practitioner of all your current treatments. Certain anticoagulants and dietary supplements may interact. A prior consultation will enable us to establish a personalized protocol guaranteeing your safety and the optimum effectiveness of each treatment.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T LIKE THE RESULT?
Hyaluronic acid offers a reassuring solution: hyaluronidase completely dissolves the injected product in just a few hours. This enzyme instantly restores your lips to their previous state. This total reversibility is the major advantage of this technique, giving you absolute psychological security before taking the plunge.
HOW MANY SYRINGES DO I NEED TO INJECT?
A 1 ml syringe is generally sufficient for an initial treatment. Very thin lips may exceptionally require a larger amount of product.
CAN TWO INJECTIONS BE GIVEN AT SHORT INTERVALS?
A touch-up is possible after 15 days, the time required for the product to stabilize completely.
WHEN CAN YOU KISS AFTER A LIP INJECTION?
I recommend a period of48-hour abstinence for intense oral-labial contact, to preserve the integrity of injection sites. This precaution ensures optimal healing of micro-lesions, avoids muscular contractions likely to displace the injected product, and significantly minimizes the risk of infection.
HOW TO MAKE UP FOR A MISSED LIP INJECTION?
A failed injection requires immediate medical assessment. Hyaluronidase partially or totally dissolves defective hyaluronic acid within 24-48h. Depending on the problem (asymmetry, over-injection, nodules), targeted corrective injections can rebalance the result. Only an experienced doctor can determine the optimal strategy: complete dissolution followed by a new injection, or gradual correction by zones.
