FOR WHOM IS DARK CIRCLE FILLING INTENDED?

Dark circles are a frequent reason for consultation in aesthetic medicine.

Many types of dark circles can make eyes look tired and heavy.

The main products are :

• Hollow circles;
• Pigmented dark circles;
• A mixture of both.

There are hereditary/ethnic factors concerning dark circles. For example dark circles are often found in people of North African origin.

Correcting dark circles with hyaluronic acid is primarily aimed at hollow circles.

Nevertheless, by correcting the shadowy area generated by the hollow of the dark circles, the injection can slightly correct the colored appearance of the circles.

Dark circles should not be confused with bags under the eyes, which are treated surgically, although the two are closely linked.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A FILLING SESSION?

During the consultation, the doctor assesses the reason for the dark circles: hereditary, lack of sleep, edema, fat pockets... Each type of dark circles is different.

The surgeon assesses whether the filling product will make eyes look less tired and remove dark circles.

If there are pockets fatty deposits, the surgeon may propose lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

An estimate is drawn up and photographs are taken.

The filling of dark circles is performed in the office. Visit hyaluronic acid injections last between 15 and 30 minutes. It all depends on the complexity of the ring.

There are two techniques for filling dark circles with hyaluronic acid:

• Cannula injection; ;
• Needle injection.

While needle injections are considerably more precise, they also carry a greater risk of bruising and swelling.

Dr. Djian favors cannulated acid injections for dark circles. If required, a specific point can be treated with a needle.

The injection itself is not painful. The patient only feels the cannula passing under the skin.

Before proceeding, the injected areas can be desensitized by means of a local anesthetic. Since the’hyaluronic acid is not a painful operation, desensitization will only be carried out on request.

The filling the ring is always carried out with a hyaluronic acid very fine. It is injected deeply, in contact with the bone. This technique avoids surface irregularities. In the case of hollow circles, hyaluronic acid is also in contact with the bone and naturally fills the hollow.

The use of a cannula ensures a homogeneous, harmonious and painless injection.

Dr. Jérémy Djian always includes a touch-up session one week after the first injection. As the skin of the eyes is very thin, it is preferable not to inject a large quantity during the first session.
